Komodo Diving Liveaboard

Located 200 nautical miles east of Bali, Komodo National Park nestles between the large islands of Sumbawa and Flores, all of which are part of Indonesia’s Lesser Sunda Islands (Nusa Tenggara on current maps).

It transgress some islands when cruising to Komodo. Diving liveaboard komodo with Sea Safari Cruise start from Bali and will layover in Moyo Island, Tora Longkoy Rinca, Satonda and Nusa Kode. All of island s have amazing underwater habitat.

Komodo Island and national park reserve offers just about every type of tropical diving imaginable – from calm and colourful shallow reefs alive with hundreds of colourful reef fishes and crammed with invertebrates, to current-swept deep water sea mounts, walls and pinnacles patrolled by sharks, tuna and other big fish.

The variety of marine life for scuba diving in Komodo rivals the world’s best dive destinations. This is the world’s epicentre for marine diversity and you’ll see loads of stuff here on a diving cruise that you just won’t see anywhere else in the world – From whale sharks, sunfish, mantas and eagle rays to pygmy seahorses, ornate ghost pipefish, clown frogfish, nudibranchs and blue-ringed octopus – all at home amongst a spectacular range of colourful sponges, sea squirts, tunicates and corals – a macro enthusiast’s heaven.

Geologically, Komodo and Rinca are part of Flores, separated from Sumbawa to the west by the Sape Strait. In the middle of the strait, the bottom drops to almost 300 metres. The many islands and relatively shallow seas between Flores and Komodo’s west coast mean very fast currents at tidal changes, especially when the higher tidal waters of the Pacific in the north flow through into the Indian Ocean to the south. The upwellings from the deep surrounding seas bring nutrients and plankton to keep the Komodo waters rich and well-fed.

Unlike other parts of Indonesia, the reefs around the south of the islands have suffered relatively little damage from dynamite fishing. Much of the area now lies within the protection of the national park. The shallow reefs between Flores and the northern region however, were bombed in the past but are now recovering their former splendour. The affected area covers around 15% of the archipelago, and even here steep drop-offs and current-swept points offer excellent Komodo diving.

The island is also famous for its Komodo dragon monitor lizard, the largest lizards in the world. An alert and agile predator and scavenger that can reach 2.5 metres in length and 125 kg, they are known locally as ‘Ora’ and now about 1,100 inhabit the island and about half that live on nearby Rinca Island.

Christmas Gifts For Fishing Enthusiasts

With Christmas coming up we all need to start thinking about getting gifts for our loved ones. Well, if you know a fishing enthusiast, then this article should help you choosing a present they will love. Having the right fishing equipment to fall back on brings us anglers a lot of joy.

Many anglers fish from a boat and this might be your main concern at first when you are deciding on a gift. The preferred method is a small row boat with a small outboard motor because a fisherman can actually stand in one of these when he wants to cast. Although it is best to row to the spot where you intend to fish, a small trolling motor is handy for traveling some distances. Big lakes are often best fished with a slightly larger vessel with higher sides as inland waters can also become choppy given half a chance when the weather turns rough. If you have a large budget then these can be great gifts for a fisherman at Christmas.

The right type of footwear is an important part of fishing equipment, especially when you are standing by the side of any lake. What anglers really need is a pair of hip boots because the great thing about these is they can be rolled down when you are not in the water. Many fishermen use hip boots all the time but if you are entering the water a great deal, then hip or chest waders are really better at the job of keeping you dry. These are best purchased so they are a comfortable fit bordering on the loose because tight fitting waders will have more strain placed on the seams and could leak when used for extended periods. Another great gift idea!

Of course you can guarantee if you don’t have a waterproof jacket with you it will rain heavily and these are available in long and short versions generally an an essential piece of fishing equipment. Wading through shallow water or while fishing from a boat would necessarily require a long jacket. Of course the opposite is true if you intend to wade up to your chest level where a shorter jacket is the order of the day. If you wear a jacket with lots of pocket, you find it very useful when you have to put away some lure or other pieces of small fishing equipment. Carry a hat with a visor as staring into the water might hurt your eyes and you need some protection. Jackets can be expensive, but again, any angler would love to receive one as a Christmas gift.

Something, which every angler needs include: the three stashes of lure and tackle box containers and these are for home stockpile, for the boat and the last is for the car. This provides protection against any loss or in the event of any mishap. Getting all your fishing supplies in huge quantities towards the start of the season is a wise idea as this keeps you ready for fishing at night. These types of things are a little lighter on the pocket and may be more suitable if you are buying gifts on a budget.

There is nothing wrong with spending time to obtain the correct fishing equipment if the recipient of your gift takes this pastime or sport seriously. The last thing they want is to be frustrated on a good catch because their equipment lets them down or they just don’t have the right gear to handle the catch with. Just like the boy scouts – they need to be prepared which help you overcome any situation and make the fishing more enjoyable.

Armed with this, try to get good quality fishing gear when you are gift shopping. It will be highly appreciated and there is something to suit every budget!

Taking the Plunge – Diving Holidays

What images spring to mind when you think of holidaying abroad? Many of us look forward to getting away from it all and relaxing on white sandy beaches, perhaps even have a dip in the crystal clear ocean.

However, there are those of us who enjoy exploring below the ocean waves as well as the abundance of sights and sands of the resorts we visit. If you’re looking to do a spot of shark spotting as well as sight seeing, there are a wide range of diving holidays available all over the world.

Whether you’re looking to spend your holiday living on a boat for a period of time or for a scuba day trip, diving holidays could be for you. There are many destinations around the world which have become famous for their dive sites – such as Sharm El Sheikh and the Great Barrier Reef – and offer the chance to experience crystal clear waters and a rich variety of wildlife that inhabit the coral reefs and shipwrecks.

And with a fluctuating financial market, many late deals are available, so whether you’re looking to explore the Andalucian coastline or for holidays in the Seychelles, you’re bound to find a deal to suit your dive. For those who feel a little more adventurous, there are also opportunities to participate in shark dives, which give divers the chance to view them through the bars of a cage.

Coral reefs are also ideal locations for those who have an interest in photography, with a rich variety of marine life inhabiting the nooks and crannies of the coral just waiting to be captured on film. Before you embark on diving holidays, it’s important to have an idea of what it may entail.

Whilst many tours will offer short training courses for first-time divers, more experienced scuba enthusiasts have the opportunity to dive at their leisure. Expeditions are often led by a ‘divemaster’, who offer experience and assistance during your dive.

If taking the plunge isn’t quite your cup of tea but you want to experience the beauty of the deep, many coastal resorts will also offer snorkelling trips, giving you the chance to appreciate the ocean without diving too far down.

Fishing: Trout Fishing With the Best Fishing Lures

Fishing for trout? Having some difficulties with your fishing game? If so, chances are very high that you’re not using the right fishing lure or bait. Now how can I be so sure?

Trout are quite voracious. They are insatiable eaters. If you present the proper lure, they’ll gobble it up most efficiently and with impressive speed. The first thing then is being able to make that fish bite the hook. And if you’re armed with the right powered fishing rod and a fishing line with the correct flexibility and strength, catching trout will be a simple pleasure.

We know that trout are ravenous eaters. To be precise, they are carnivores who have a fondness for live small creatures that are willing to put up a good fight. No creature, aquatic or terrestrial, is ever safe with this fish. A trout would even feed on smaller fishes, providing that they could fit into its comparatively large mouth.

Based on these facts, the following are considered to be the most excellent baits for trout:

▪ Dry flies. These artificial flies are crafted to look like real flies. When tugged upon, they can even imitate the movement of their living counterparts. Considering a trout’s voracious appetite, dry flies are perfect baits for its perpetually hungry mouth.

▪ Sinkers. These are nymphs and wet flies that have been prepared to sink to the bottom of the water. Because trout feeds beneath the surface of the water most of the time, sinkers have improved odds of capturing the target’s attention.

▪ Emergers. Trout are predators. They know when their preys are most vulnerable. Can there be any more fragile condition than that of an invertebrate which has just emerged from its nymph stage into young adulthood? (Lo, the circle of life.) By replicating these “emergers,” lure-crafters manage to garner the attention of trout greedy for a satisfying meal.

▪ Streamers. These are lures that are intended to descend rapidly so that they may attract and appeal to an aggressive trout. Streamers are among the most popular artificial fly baits. This category includes the woolly buggers and the sculpins.

When fishing for trout, as when hunting for wild game, you always have a better chance of getting a good catch when you know how your intended prey behaves. Not only that but your chance for success will significantly increase if you also know about your prey’s location. As with most things in life, the more you know the better.

When it comes to fishing lures, you shouldn’t ever just settle for the first lure that becomes available. Study the list above and plan a strategy based on that. You’ll have a much better chance at having a great fishing trip with a more abundant yield.
