Walleye fishing reels – Walleye Fishing Tackle For Success!

You will be selecting your walleye fishing reels based on what your walleye fishing technique. Anglers who regularly use several fishing techniques during a day of fishing often include in their walleye fishing tackle, three or four combo rod & reel outfits, each set up different with lures or live bait setups.

The following recommendations will help you chose the correct walleye fishing reel to go with your selected walleye fishing rod.

For good sensitivity and casting performance , your reel must balance with your rod. Make sure you match your walleye fishing lure, walleye fishing jig, and walleye fishing live bait weights with the correct line recommendation walleye fishing reel, and walleye fishing rod combination when setting up your walleye fishing rigs. For example, if you attempt to use a reel intended for 12 – to- 20 pound line with a rod designed for 4 to 8 pound test the outfit will be butt-heavy.If to much weight is present on the butt of the rod,casting becomes extremely difficult, and your wrist snap (which propels your lures and bait rigs when casting)will be severely limited. Also being over weight in the butt of your walleye fishing rod will dull the rods sensation when getting a bite. You need to have a great deal of sensation in your rod if you want to catch anything. When selecting a Spinning reel, look for the following features:

#1 A rear Mounted drag.

#2 Make sure the reel has a skirted spool of adequate size to hold at least 100yards of line.

#3 A bail with strong spring tension. If the bail does not close all the way, the line will ride on the bail itself rather than on the roller. When you attempt to set the hook, the bail will open up enough to line come off of the spool. Some of the best spinning reels have a spring on each side of the bail.

#4 A free-turning bail roller. The roller must must turn when the line passes over, If it does not, heat and abrasion will damage the line and may wear a grove in the roller.

#5 Interchangeable spools. These spools snap into the reel, enabling you to quickly change to a different weight of line or type of line, or to replace a half empty spool with afull one.

If you are looking to add more options to your walleye fishing tackle, make sure when you pick a walleye fishing baiting casting reel you take a very close look at the backlash mechanism. The Backlash resistance is the most important feature of a bait casting reel. Bait casting reels are sometimes used as a walleye fishing reel for some fishing techniques, for example when trolling for walleye. The backlash mechanism should be made of a magnetic or centrifugal brake system to make sure you have a good backlash resistance. A high gear ratio is not a requirement for walleye fishing because fast retrieves are seldom needed. A gear ratio of 4:1 is usually adequate. Some bait bait casting reels also come with interchangeable spools.

Although most experienced walleye fisherman frown on spin casting gear, it remains a favorite among many anglers. If you purchase a spin casting reel make sure it has a smooth drag and a reliable line pickup mechanism. Unless the line is taut, the mechanism on a cheap spin cast reel often fails to pick up the line when you turn the handle.

There are plenty of scuba diving classes being offered in New York. If you’re thinking of taking one, you might want to know several requirements first. Before going to scuba diving class, make sure you have the following:

Interest – while classes can be completed in a few days, training and getting a certification will require some homework. Most diving schools in New York require their students to complete assignments that include reading materials, videos and exams. If you don’t have the interest, you might just give up and waste your time and money.

Scuba diving gear – you could rent, of course. But if you want to make scuba diving a regular part of your recreation, better get the gear first. This is not a requirement, however. Most schools only require the students to bring a mask, snorkel and fins. They provide the rest of the gear.

Money – scuba diving classes are quite inexpensive and usually start at $250, which includes class and pool training and dive gear use. Most course materials aren’t included in the fees.

Swimming skills – you need to be in reasonably good health and be a competent enough swimmer. Some trainings include floating and treading time and swimming 200 or 400 yards in a pool.

Age requirement – you should at least be 10 years old to take scuba diving lessons. If you want the PADI Open Water Diver course, you need to be at least 14.

If you like smaller classes, you might want to check out Village Divers. They have an instructor-student limit of 1:4. This small dive shop offers both recreational and technical training.

Paddling along the shallows you can see the shadow of the board gliding across the sandy lake bottom. It’s not uncommon to see a fish cruising along close to you… so why not seize the moment and cast a line out.

I’ve found that the stand up paddle board can be an excellent fishing platform. Where I live, we have hundreds of inland lakes around that are great for exploring and fishing. Some of the great fishing spots aren’t even accessible from a boat, but with a paddleboard you can scoot right up on a fishing hole without even being noticed. With the high vantage point of stand up paddle boards, you can see the fish about as far away as you can cast. It’s nearly a perfect situation.

Here is my typical paddleboard fishing excursion. For this example let’s assume we’re fishing for Bass. First I’d scope out the satellite layout of the lake on Google Maps. You’d be surprised how many times features of the lake will go un-noticed. Look for dark spots that resemble “holes”, or spots that look like steep drop offs around the edge of the lake. You’ll also want to take into consideration the time of day that you’re planning on fishing. Early morning and late evening are the best times to catch the fish.

When getting ready to go out on the lake, grab a backpack that has an external side pocket for drinks -most do have these. Test fit your fishing pole in this little pouch… You might need to make some small modifications to get it to stay in while paddling. Then put your lures, tackle, and anything else you plan to fish with in the bag.

When you get to the lake, scope out the wind direction. The wind tends to blow the warm top water to one side of the lake… in my experiences; the fish tend to stay in the cooler water. So paddle out to a spot that looks like it might have some fish. Weed beds or underwater debris can be a good place to start.

Reach behind your head and grab the fishing pole. Get yourself steady, and cast. You may have to repeat that process a few times, but with a little skill and a lot of luck, you’ll hook a fish.

This is the fun part… the fish will start pulling back. Sometimes, if you’ve got a decent fish on the end of the line, he’ll actually pull you around a little bit. -Really fun.

Gatun Lake

One of the jewels in Panama’s fishing destinations is Gatun Lake. At the time of its creation, it was the world’s largest freshwater lake. It has a formidable area of 164 square miles. The lake was originally created to store water for the operation of the Panama Canal’s locks: the system that raises and lowers ships in transit through the canal. Some smaller vessels make shortcuts through the lake, so visitors can see ships from all over the world while they fish.

Gatun Lake is host to a number of freshwater tropical fish species, but is perhaps best known for its Peacock Bass. In the 1950s, a private citizen was raising them in his pond, when heavy rain allowed them to cross into the lake. They have multiplied and prospered since then, creating an incredible sport fishing opportunity.

The Peacock Bass is a feisty, challenging fish, best suited to being caught with fly rods. Although the fish exists in Florida, it is rare enough there to discourage eating. The state government enforces strict bag limits and many fishers practice catch and release. This isn’t the case in Panama, where the fish has prospered. You can enjoy the sweet taste of your catch without guilt.

Additionally, Panama tourists can enjoy fishing in the Atlantic or Pacific. Inshore and offshore trips are available. Guides are used to new fishers. Many resorts provide a full tackle kit for anyone fishing either coast. Locations like Pedasi (Atlantic Ocean) and Chiriqui (Pacific Ocean) are famous for their excellent fishing and hospitality. Ocean species such as Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi-Mahi and Wahoo are available at different times of the year.

For you skeptics who say the fish was dead, I assure you it wasn’t dead.

That said, I still risked my E-Flite Blade 400 for some entertainment for you
(I used 3 batteries, hence the cut) as fun and challenging for me.
I doubt most others would risk their $450 heli just to hover over the water, let alone dangle a line!

This scenario shows it may be possible to use the Helicopter for fishing, however it would be expensive fishing.

It is always terribly windy here, so on this calm day, those simple waves in the water was of no concern to a sunfish!

It also helps to have lots of fish, like in our Sand Pit Pond where they bite on hooks with no bait! (actually I used fish eggs and the hook 24″ from the bobber.
Hey, you never know, if you don’t try!
***Caution from past experience***

If the Tail rotor hits the water even slightly, it will immediately cause a crash.
Big fish can drain batteries fast. It takes and hour to charge between flights of only 6 minutes, so this could be a long process to catch a fish.
Sunfish are not big fighters.

The tropical Indonesian island of Bali is still attracts millions of tourists every year. Tourists on vacations to Bali are attracted by the mystique, charms and allure of the predominantly traditional Hindu culture, spectacular tropical jungles, mountains and beautiful beaches. Many tourists especially from nearby Australia and Singapore travel to Bali for scuba Diving. The islands in Bali are well known for its excellent scuba diving locations.

Scuba divers in Bali can expect to encounter awesome underwater landscape as well as sighting a very wide array of marine sea creatures. Let’s visit some scuba diving Bali dive spots.

In Nusa Penida and Lembongan Islands, there are spectacular drop off reefs making reef and wall diving the predominant staple on these two scuba diving locations. It takes about a 45 minute speedboat ride to reach these dive destinations.

Water visibility is excellent all year round but the current here is stronger. Experienced divers will love it here as they can enjoy some drift dives. However, the current may get very strong occasionally and dives may have to be abandoned when this happens.

The dive sites at Nusa Dua and Sanur are just 5 minutes away from the coast and therefore easily assessable. The novice divers will love these dive spots because of the gentle current. Water visibility ranges from low to moderate since they are located in the coastal area and are more affected by pollution. Although hard coral life is limited, the dive spots have a surprisingly diversity of marine fishes, soft corals and sponges which are thriving on the reefs.

There is a very wide variety of corals, colorful sea fans and huge pelagic fishes here. Big schools of sweet lips fish, turtles, sharks and manta rays are often sighted by excited scuba divers.

Jemeluk and Amed Beaches are one and half hour away from Denpasar. Denpasar is a popular tourist coastal town with many wonderful hotels, resorts and night entertainment. Scuba divers need to be very experienced as the current here can get very strong. However the dives here can be very exciting because of long coastal reefs, reef slopes/drop offs and majestic wall diving. Water visibility can be considered as moderate to good. To add a final touch, these dive spots have one of the best hard coral communities in Bali.

The Tulamben Wreck Dive is a must dive spot for scuba divers to enjoy wreck diving. The water visibility here is fair to good and the current is gentle. Night dive on this wreck are often described as breathtaking.

The wreck, USS Liberty which met its fate in 1942 when a Japanese torpedo fired from a submarine in the second world war found its target.

Some of the most exhilarating and challenging deep-sea fishing is available in the blue waters of Shimoni. But you have a better chance of catching a Striped Marlin from the Pemba Channel than anywhere else in the world. Traditionally when the Kaskazi (north east monsoon) blows, the billfish arrive in great numbers. There are two very definite seasons, the Yellowfin Tuna season, which runs from August through to the end of October, and the Marlin season, which runs from December to mid March.

The different types of fish and their seasons throughout the year.

Billfish

The Pemba channel provides us with six species of billfish including Black, Blue and Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Broadbill Swordfish and the elusive Shortbill Spearfish, so your chances of catching a grand slam (1 each of any 3 billfish in one day) are very high and real.

Striped Marlin:

Striped Marlins are the most prolific of the Marlin and they seasonally migrate through the natural corridor that lies between Pemba Island and the mainland. The Striped Marlin is well known for its fighting ability and is renowned for its speed and acrobatic displays. It has a reputation for spending more time in the air than in the water just after it is hooked. In addition to long runs and tail walks, it will ‘greyhound’ across the surface, making a dozen or more long, graceful leaps. Compared to a Blue or a Black it is considerably more slender and is the most colourful of all Marlin. Just before striking or when the Striped Marlin is annoyed, fourteen iridescent blue lines spark up the Marlin’s body. It is one of those must see moments – a Striped Marlin lighting up to strike one of your baits.

The Striped Marlin fishing Season: – The prime Marlin season runs from mid November to end of March. In March it would seem that the fish are much larger than average.

Black Marlin:

A highly rated game fish, the Black Marlin has the power, size and persistence of which anglers dream! This Marlin has tremendous power, and is known for its long runs and tail walking. Black Marlins in Kenyan waters are generally larger than the other Marlin and have short, heavy bodies with the fins virtually locked in position. The Black Marlin is noted as a violent feeder at the top of the food chain and feeds on other game fish and small baitfish.

The Black Marlin fishing Season: – During August to the end of October, large Blacks can be found amongst the Tuna. The prime Marlin season runs from mid November to end of March.

Blue Marlin:

The Blue Marlin is the largest of the Marlin family. It is a more streamlined version of the Black Marlin. It has along slender bill extending up to a virtual point on the top of the head where the dorsal fin slants, resulting in a huge speed take off compared to other Marlin. The Blue is a powerful aggressive fighter, known for its impressive athletic abilities on the surface, clearing the water time and time again. They run hard and long, and leap high into the air in a seemingly inexhaustible display of strength, although they are prone to going deep to conserve their energy.

The Blue Marlin Fishing Season: – During August to end October large Blue Marlins can be found amongst the Tuna. Blues and Blacks follow, and gorge on, the shoals of Yellow fin Tuna at this time of the year and are usually fatter than later in the season.

Broadbill:

Broadbill (Xiphias gladius) is known as the ‘Gladiator of the Sea’ due to its reputation of being the toughest of all the billfish with a violent mood, and is considered by many to be the toughest of all billfish to catch – the ultimate challenge in big game fishing. Characteristically, it has a smooth, very broad, flattened sword (broadbill) that is significantly longer and wider than the bill of any other billfish. It has considerable big blue eyes, and is a ferocious night feeder. They are deep-water predators and are known to go to depths of at least 550m. They are finicky, easily frightened and rarely strike blindly. The Pemba Channel is perhaps one of the premier destinations for Broadbill fishing. Broadbill fishing is conducted at night.

Broadbill Fishing Season:: – All year but best in October, November and March when the seas are very calm. December before the wind goes round to the northeast can also be an excellent time for Broadbill fishing.

Sailfish:

The Sailfish is one of the most colourful game fish of all – its outstanding feature is the long, high first dorsal which is slate or cobalt blue with a scattering of black spots. Its body is dark blue and silver and lights up with white dots and lines of electric blue. It is a very acrobatic fish and will dive quicker than the marlin because of its size and surrounds. They are a migratory species usually traveling alone or in small groups. It’s fighting ability and spectacular aerial acrobatics endear the Sailfish to the saltwater angler, but it tires quickly and is considered a light tackle species.

Sailfish Fishing Season: – Are seen and caught throughout the fishing season but most prolific during December and January.

Shortbill Spearfish:

This elusive game fish does exist in the waters of the Pemba Channel, but is infrequently encountered and rarely seen and caught. It is a highly migratory deep-water species feeding at or near the surface on medium-sized fish, including Dorado, Flying Fish and Pilot Fish, Squid and Crustaceans. They appear to be available all year in small numbers.

Shortbill Spearfish Fishing Season: – Mid November to end of March with December being the best month.

Tuna:

From August we start to see large numbers of migrating Yellowfin Tuna, which are, one of the strongest fish that swim and can put up a challenging fight. They make transoceanic journeys on a regular basis. Tuna school primarily by size and 12 – 20lb outfits are ideal for schools of small Tuna that run in the season, providing really good sport for the light tackle enthusiast. August to October provides excellent sport for Tuna. Multiple hook ups are normal when the ocean can come alive with huge schools in pursuit of smaller fish creating plenty of excitement

Tuna Fishing season: – Typically from August to end October. This is an excellent time for Tuna. Blue and Black Marlins follow and gorge on the shoals of Yellowfin Tuna at this time of year and are usually fatter than later in the season.

Tiger Shark:

Born at a size of 50 – 75 centimetres long with a beautiful silvery pattern of leopard-like spots, which change to bars as they grow and fade as they mature. The head is large and blocky with big soulful eyes. Mature Tiger Sharks become very stout. They may be resident in certain areas, but in general they are wanderers. They tend to stay in deeper water by day and enter shallow waters at night.

Mako Shark:

Mako Shark are torpedo shaped and are the speed kings of the cartilaginous fish and possibly the fastest fish in the ocean – measurements as high as 100kph (60mph) have been reported. When hooked they may jump to a height of several body lengths out of the water. They are able to chase down and consume fast moving pelagic, such as Tuna and Broadbill. Their ability to reach such phenomenal speeds may be attributed to a blood vessel heat exchange system, which enables them to maintain a body temperature

All sharks are an endangered species and their tag and release is actively promoted.
